Dr. Theophilus Jong Yungong

Senior Lecturer

Dr. Theophilus-Jong Yungong is a Cameroonian development professional, academic, and researcher. He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer & Researcher at EUCLID (Euclid University) for Sustainable Development & Research Methods, and he is the Interim Executive Director of the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD). His work sits at the critical intersection of academia and policy, focusing on sustainable development, sovereign debt, and the political economy of Africa.

Dr. Yungong has a strong educational foundation that bridges geography, development studies, and technical geo-information systems. He holds a PhD and a Master's (MA) degree in Development Studies from Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. His doctoral research evaluated the development potential of corporate social investments in Cameroon's extractive sector (oil, gas, and mining). He earned a Bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Buea in Cameroon. He also earned a post-graduate diploma in Geo-Information Production and Management (GIS specialism) from the Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys (RECTAS, now AFROGIST) in Nigeria.

Dr. Yungong has extensive consulting experience, particularly in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), social research, and GIS for development and humanitarian activities. He has also lectured at the Siantou University Institute in Cameroon.

Research & Interests:

Dr. Yungong's research interests focus on the political economy of sustainable development. His academic and policy-oriented work includes: PhD Dissertation: A study on the development potential of extractive sector corporate social investments in Cameroon. Peer-Reviewed Publications: Notably, a 2025 article titled "Towards the Next Frontier in Sustainable Debt Advocacy in Africa," and another on climate justice in Zimbabwe co-authored with other EUCLID faculty members. AFRODAD Publications and Reports: He leads the organization's research output on African debt, economic governance, and sustainable development.
