Dr. Isa Elegbede

Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences

Dr. Isa Elegbede is an accomplished environmental scientist serving as an Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences at EUCLID (Euclid University), while also holding the position of Lecturer II at Lagos State University (LASU). He earned his PhD in Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Coastal and Ocean Resources Sustainability from Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) in Cottbus, Germany. His professional experience includes both teaching and research roles at Lagos State University (as a full-time Professor) and as a Lecturer and Research Associate at Brandenburg University of Technology.

Dr. Elegbede's teaching interests are deeply rooted in the intersection of environmental systems and global policy. He focuses on Global Change and Sustainability, Marine and Coastal Governance, and Environmental Governance and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). These interests are complemented by his research specialization in Marine and Coastal Resource Sustainability and Seafood Production, reflecting a commitment to interdisciplinary education that bridges natural sciences with governance frameworks.

Research & Interests:

Dr. Elegbede’s research focuses on the sustainability, pollution, and governance of aquatic and coastal ecosystems. His recent work investigates the bioaccumulation and health risks of heavy metals in commercially valuable shellfish and finfish species from polluted Nigerian waters, as well as the occurrence and ecological risks of heavy metals in water, sediment, and biota from the Ojo River in Lagos. He also explores sustainable applications for seafood waste, such as utilizing gastropod exoskeletons in a circular economy, and studies the challenges and opportunities for indigenous certification in sustainable communal fisheries. With a total of 25 publications accumulating over 270 indexed citations, his work appears in prestigious journals including Marine Pollution Bulletin and Scientific Reports. He has also contributed to research on AI for global food security and the health dimensions of fishers in the Atlantic Gulf of Guinea.
