Dr. Bernadette Louise Bain

Senior Lecturer

Dr. Bernadette Louise Baina  is a Counsel and Attorney-at-Law, having transitioned from working in the government hospital for ten years as a Registered Nurse/Midwife and Public Health Nurse. Prior to pursuing law, She also worked for Nine years at a private High School, teaching Family Life and Health Education. She completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of the West Indies in 2003. Then, enrolled in Bar School for Two years to earn her Legal Education Certificate. She was called to The Bahamas Bar as Counsel and Attorney-at-Law in 2005. While practicing law in the Supreme Court of The Bahamas for approximately Five years, She gained experience in advocacy litigation, both civil and criminal, opinion writing, case management, and dispute resolution. These experiences encouraged her to enroll in Queen Mary University of London to pursue her Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Medical Law & Ethics with a minor in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Her LLM degree was earned in 2010. Since then, her professional focus has been Advanced Negligence, Mental Health Law, and Consent to Treatment. To advance her expertise in legal sciences and professional development as a professor, she completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Mediation and Conflict Resolution in January 2023 from EUCLID University.

TEACHING INTERESTS AND EXPERIENCE In 2012, She was hired as a Lecturer at The University of The Bahamas to begin her career as a Tertiary Educator. Since then, She has been promoted to Assistant Professor in the Law Department of The University of The Bahamas, to the present time (2026). Her passion for Medical Law and Ethics enabled her to write the course: Medical Law and Ethics (LAWS 450), for third year Bachelor of Laws students and co-writing the Alternative Dispute Resolution (LAWS 478) course. To add, She chair the Persons with Disabilities Conferences and Webinars and served as the primary advisor for the Law Society 2015-2026 at the University of The Bahamas. Other teaching experiences include Criminal Law I (LAWS 210), Law of Torts I (LAWS 230), Law of Torts II (LAWS 301), Company Law (LAWS 317), Administrative Law (LAWS 377), Constitutional Law (LAWS 206), Employment Law (LAWS 415), and Senior Thesis (LAWS 499) As a professor, her lecture and research interests include Medical Law & Ethics, Public Health, Law of Torts, Law and Legal Systems, World Trade Organization, and Employment Law. Additional research interests include Mental Health, Persons with Disabilities, and Mediation and Conflict Resolution. She continue to attend Conferences and Webinars, with my affiliation with World Association of Medical Law (WAML), American Society of Law Medicine and Ethics (ASLME), and Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA). Faculty Relationships at EUCLID:

At EUCLID, faculty interactions are intentionally personal, responsive, and relationship-centered. Students connect with professors primarily through direct email and scheduled Zoom sessions, creating regular opportunities for substantive dialogue rather than one-way communication.

Professors respond promptly to emails with detailed, constructive feedback and are readily available for one-on-one Zoom meetings to discuss coursework, research direction, thesis development, or career goals. These interactions are not limited to academic questions; they often evolve into ongoing mentorship relationships where faculty serve as professional and academic role models. Students benefit from professors’ real-world experience in global affairs, sustainable development, diplomacy, and related fields, gaining practical insights that complement the formal curriculum.

The emphasis is on genuine relationship building. Many students develop lasting professional connections with their professors, who actively support their academic progress and post-graduation objectives. This accessible, human-centered faculty model is a defining feature of the EUCLID experience, designed to foster intellectual growth, professional maturity, and meaningful scholarly collaboration.
