Dr. Sejla Durbuzovic

Professor of Practice in Diplomacy and International Law

Ms. Durbuzovic joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2006. Prior to that, she was active in the NGO sector, serving as a legal advisor and project manager. Posted to the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN in New York from 2007 to 2013 and from 2015 to 2019, she served as a legal adviser, a human rights expert, and a counterterrorism expert, including during BiH's non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council in 2010-2011.

Ms. Durbuzovic most recently held the position of Head of the EU Department and Acting Assistant Minister in the Division for Multilateral Affairs.

Research & Interests + Publications:

Ms. Durbuzovic is a senior diplomat with extensive practical experience in intersecting fields of international law, foreign policy, and human rights. Research interests particularly focus on the evolution of international law and international criminal justice, the interplay between politics and international law, and how it influences the work and efficacy of international tribunals in addressing atrocities such as war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. Dedicated to examining the challenges in prosecuting genocide and crimes against humanity through a political and legal lens. Ms. Durbuzovic holds a Law degree from the University of Sarajevo, a Master’s degree in State Management and Humanitarian Affairs from the University of Sarajevo, and a PhD in Diplomacy and International Affairs from EUCLID.

Professors respond promptly to emails with detailed, constructive feedback and are readily available for one-on-one Zoom meetings to discuss coursework, research direction, thesis development, or career goals. These interactions are not limited to academic questions; they often evolve into ongoing mentorship relationships where faculty serve as professional and academic role models. Students benefit from professors’ real-world experience in global affairs, sustainable development, diplomacy, and related fields, gaining practical insights that complement the formal curriculum.

The emphasis is on genuine relationship building. Many students develop lasting professional connections with their professors, who actively support their academic progress and post-graduation objectives. This accessible, human-centered faculty model is a defining feature of the EUCLID experience, designed to foster intellectual growth, professional maturity, and meaningful scholarly collaboration.
