The EUCLID–EULER Partnership

The EUCLID–EULER Partnership: Strengthening Global Higher Education Through Strategic Affiliation

EUCLID (Euclid University) is proud of its long-standing and evolving partnership with EULER — The Euler-Franeker Memorial University. This unique relationship combines the strengths of an established intergovernmental institution with a dynamic, nationally chartered university, offering students and professionals enhanced academic opportunities and international recognition.

From EUCLID Institute to Independent University

EULER began its journey as an academic institute within EUCLID. Established under Section X.6 of the EUCLID Statutes (as registered and published in the United Nations Treaty Series), the Euler-Franeker Memorial University Institute was created to expand EUCLID’s educational mandate while preserving its core intergovernmental character.

Between 2011 and 2013, EUCLID provided full institutional, academic, and operational support to help the institute develop into a fully autonomous university. In 2023, EULER received its own independent university charter from the Ministry of Education of Curaçao, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This charter grants EULER the legal authority to confer degrees in its own name.

EULER also achieved full institutional accreditation from the Accreditation Agency Curaçao (AAC), the nationally recognized accrediting body. This milestone marked EULER’s transition into a free-standing university while preserving its foundational ties to EUCLID.

Maintaining Intergovernmental Status and Affiliation

Importantly, EULER continues to maintain its status as a EUCLID-affiliated institute. This ongoing affiliation ensures that EULER benefits from EUCLID’s intergovernmental framework, global network, and treaty-based legitimacy (UN Treaty Series 49006/49007). The partnership remains active and mutually supportive, allowing both institutions to collaborate on program development, faculty exchange, and research initiatives.

Dual-Degree Opportunities

Thanks to the formal Partnership Agreement between the two institutions, some but not all EUCLID and EULER programs are eligible for dual-degree conferral.

  • Students completing eligible EULER programs may receive both an EULER degree (Dutch-chartered) and a EUCLID degree (intergovernmental).
  • There is no automatic 1-to-1 correspondence between all EUCLID and EULER degrees. Eligibility for the dual award is determined on a program-by-program basis and clearly communicated during the application process.

This flexible dual-degree model gives students the best of both worlds without compromising academic rigor or institutional identity.

The Strategic Value of the Partnership

The EUCLID–EULER partnership creates a powerful synergy that benefits students, governments, and international organizations:

  • EUCLID’s Intergovernmental Strength: As a treaty-based institution with a global mandate focused on diplomacy, public administration, sustainable development, and global health, EUCLID brings treaty-level recognition and a network that spans multiple continents and international organizations.
  • EULER’s Dutch and Caribbean-European Anchoring: EULER’s charter within the Kingdom of the Netherlands provides a strong European and Caribbean foundation. With operational presence in Curaçao (Caribbean) and liaison offices in Amsterdam (Europe), EULER adds regional prestige, Dutch academic tradition, and enhanced mobility/credential recognition across the European Higher Education Area and the Caribbean.

Together, the partnership offers students an exceptionally strong international profile — combining the diplomatic and intergovernmental credibility of EUCLID with the national university charter and European-Caribbean anchoring of EULER.

This unique positioning makes EUCLID and EULER graduates particularly attractive to employers in government, international organizations, academia, and the private sector.
