Overview

EUCLID, an intergovernmental treaty-based institution with a university mandate (United Nations Treaty Series 49006/49007), offers to select students from the general public an online PhD in Clinical and Translational Research. This program is designed for professionals seeking to advance their careers in clinical research, translational science, and academic medicine.

The EUCLID online PhD in Clinical and Translational Research is unique in that it is offered by an international intergovernmental organization with specialized expertise in global health and research. It is therefore one of the few doctoral-level programs in clinical and translational research organized by an intergovernmental institution and officially used by senior civil servants and health professionals over 4 continents.

This program offers a comprehensive competency: clinical trial design, translational biomarkers and precision medicine, drug discovery and development, regulatory science, implementation science, and patient-centered outcomes research.

Academic Presentation

The translation of basic scientific discoveries into clinical applications is one of the most critical challenges in modern medicine. The gap between bench research and bedside practice remains wide, and there is a growing need for highly trained professionals who can navigate the complex pathway from laboratory discovery to patient care.

This PhD program addresses these challenges by providing advanced training in the principles and practice of clinical research, drug discovery, regulatory science, and implementation science. Students will gain expertise in designing and managing clinical trials, understanding translational biomarkers, and applying precision medicine approaches to improve patient outcomes.

The program is delivered completely online / distance format, allowing working professionals to advance their education without disrupting their careers. The EULER+EUCLID DCTR provides outstanding professional and academic preparation to its students for successful careers in clinical research, academic medicine, pharmaceutical development, and global health policy at the international, regional, national, and local levels.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Online PhD in Clinical and Translational Research, graduates will be able to:

  • Design and manage clinical trials in compliance with Good Clinical Practice and regulatory standards.
  • Apply translational science principles to bridge basic research and clinical applications.
  • Utilize translational biomarkers and precision medicine approaches to improve patient outcomes.
  • Navigate the drug discovery and development process from target identification to market approval.
  • Implement evidence-based practices and patient-centered outcomes research.
  • Conduct medical research, audit, and teaching at an advanced academic level.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in argumentation, critical thinking, and international academic writing.
  • Address bioethical challenges in clinical research and medical treatment.

Requirements

Applicants should have a relevant Master’s degree issued by an institution listed in the UNESCO-IAU handbook/database or otherwise duly recognized/accredited. Similar or related backgrounds with adequate professional experience may be considered for Government-sponsored applicants (who are already government staff) who may be admitted without the required educational credential if their level of education and experience is deemed sufficient.

EUCLID may require these participants to complete bridge courses prior to enrolling in the program. Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required and will be tested. Students are expected to be in a position to dedicate 10 to 15 effective hours of study on a weekly basis.
