Biography: Pr Faustin Touadera

Faustin Touadera (full name Professor Faustin Archange Touadera) is the current President of the Central African Republic. He was democratically elected in 2016 and had previously served as Prime Minister. Touadera holds two PhDs in Mathematics and was a professor of mathematics at the University of Bangui before becoming rector. Even as rector and later on as Prime Minister, he continued to teach mathematics, noting that qualified professors were scarce and that being in the classroom allowed him to maintain close interaction with the general public. Even as President, he has continued to come on campus and to teach his advanced mathematics course when not travelling overseas.

As rector of the University of Bangui, Pr Touadera was instrumental in the creation of the Euclid Consortium which evolved into EUCLID in 2008. As Prime Minister, he signed the convention formalizing the participation of the Central African Republic in the institution and finalized its headquarters agreement. When he was elected President in 2016, Pr Touadera invited a EUCLID delegation to attend his investiture and holds the honorary title of “President d’Honneur” of the “Pôle Universitaire Euclide” which he helped established through his visionary leadership at the University of Bangui.

As Prime Minister, Pr Touadera personally presided over a EUCLID graduation ceremony in New York city when visiting the United Nations.
