Overview

An affordable, fully online doctoral program with an intergovernmental mandate and proven track-record of training world-class diplomats, civil servants, and sustainability experts.

EUCLID (Pôle Universitaire Euclide | Euclid University), an international intergovernmental organization with university mandate, offers to intergovernmental and national civil servants (as well as select students from the general public) a specialized external degree program called the EUCLID Online Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Sustainability (DEVS).

This field of study or specialization integrates rigorous environmental science with sustainability principles, global governance, and policy implementation. It covers environmental monitoring and data analysis, sustainable resource management, environmental and social impact assessment, international environmental law, and UN frameworks. It is the only fully online PhD program in Environmental Science and Sustainability organized by an intergovernmental (treaty-based) organization and is officially positioned to serve diplomats and civil servants across continents. Alumni, students, and faculty include current and former senior officials engaged in environmental policy and sustainability initiatives.

Academic Presentation

Overview EUCLID’s Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Sustainability (DEVS) represents approximately 90 US credits (120 ECTS) of post-baccalaureate study. Students entering with a relevant Master’s degree typically complete 30–35 US credits of core and elective doctoral coursework, followed by the doctoral dissertation, which is developed in five distinct phases. The resulting thesis is expected to be a substantial, publishable scholarly work that makes an original contribution to the field and positions the candidate as a subject-matter expert.

Program Objectives This doctoral program offers a rigorous, interdisciplinary examination of environmental science and sustainability. It is designed to develop advanced expertise in environmental monitoring and data analysis, sustainable resource management, environmental and social impact assessment, global environmental governance, international environmental law, systems thinking, and policy implementation. Strong emphasis is placed on UN frameworks and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ecological economics, biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, water security, and transboundary environmental challenges, particularly as they relate to the Global South and developing nations.

Focus & Specializations Candidates may concentrate their studies and research in one or more of the following areas:

  • Environmental monitoring, data science, GIS and remote sensing
  • Global environmental governance and multilateral agreements
  • Sustainable resource management and ecological economics
  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)
